At the end of March the squadron held a 24 hour sponsored ‘Gameathon’ to raise much needed funds for new training equipment. Around 20 cadets took part in the event, which involved playing traditional titles like Monopoly, to more exotic offerings, including Buzz, a computer based music quiz, and two dance mats.
Starting at 8am on the 27th, and ending at 8am on the 28th, Cadets had to constantly doing something ‘game related’. They were not allowed to sleep and were only allowed breaks for food. For most of the time everyone was enthusiastic and in the beginning quickly found something to do.
Although it might seem to many an easy challenge, it was mentally demanding for everyone concerned, as sleep deprivation took hold in the early hours of the morning. Tensions ran high during this period and cadets began to disagree with one another. Thankfully though, most fall-outs were rectified during or after the event.
One Cadet commented on the gameathon; “Overall I enjoyed it. It was harder than I expected, and some arguments spoilt the fun for some people, but the majority of it was great. I just hope we raise plenty of money for the squadron!”
We have not yet received all of the sponsors but it is hoped that there will be enough money to replace our broken data projector. If you still have your son or daughter’s form then don’t forget to ask your family and friends for extra sponsors. Remember, the more money we raise, the better you child’s cadet career will be!
